Maggie’s Place was featured on ABC 15 as a place to help pregnant women get back on their feet. Below is the intro to the story.
Some Valley moms say they’ve received the best Mother’s Day gift of all. After finding themselves pregnant and alone, these women are getting help to bounce back on their feet.
It’s all thanks to a non-profit organization called Maggie’s Place, which provides pregnant moms with housing and resources. We visited one of the organization’s three homes here in the Valley.
The Magdalene house is located near Roosevelt and 16th streets in Phoenix. Six moms are currently living in this two-story home.
Maggie’s Place helps women through pregnancy, birth, and the first nine months of their baby’s life. The goal is to transition themselves into self-sufficiency.
Reina Flores, 24, has a 7-month-old baby boy. She came to Maggie’s Place nine months pregnant.
“I was homeless,” she said. “I was staying at friends’ houses. I wasn’t ready.”
Flores said she had no job and felt alone. Maggie’s Place provided a support group for her.
“They’re like my sisters,” she said.
The women help care for one anther’s children. Baby furniture, diapers, food, formula and other necessities are provided. The women get help looking for work, filling out resumes, and emotional support, too.
