Last week was Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving fueled by social media shares, mentions, and matches. It is an annual event celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. Over the years, it has become an event on par with Black Friday and Cyber Monday–a way of giving back to the good works all over the world. It is also recognized as a kickoff to the charitable season when people generally focus on holidays and year end giving.
Here at Maggie’s Place, over $11,000 was raised for the moms and children in need. We asked some of our donors why they choose Maggie’s Place to receive their generosity and love. This is some of what we heard.
Allison tells us that she shares as part of her faith. She also said she likes that we invite the moms to, “live with us and we will walk with them for the rest of their lives.”
“Maggie’s Place is home to so many women. It is a beacon of hope in a time of turmoil, confusion, and oftentimes, loneliness. Maggie’s Place not only provides shelter, resources, and the safety for mothers to welcome their babies into this world, but it fosters love and welcomes everyone into a family. I support Maggie’s Place this Giving Tuesday because it has given me a lasting community of love, a renewed sense of hope, and continues to show the world that everyone deserves a home,” says Ellen.
Kim told us, “I support Maggie’s Place for the fundamental principle that is behind its’ mission and great success — the recognition of the inherent dignity of the human person and the acknowledgment that we can recognize and foster this understanding on a grand scale by starting in just one house and in a small circle of people.”
We are grateful for all the heartfelt wishes and the generosity and support that came with this year’s donations. We look forward to a wonderful Christmas season with all our mothers and children and are thankful that Giving Tuesday could serve as a kickoff to spreading the hope of the holidays.
