I was inspired to share this modge podge of a morning offering prayer that I pray. It has bits from Psalm 51, the first book of Kings, and a prayer to St. Thomas More that Pope Francis says daily (because a healthy dose of humor in our daily lives is very beneficial!).
Thank you Lord for another wonderful day of life. A pure heart create in me, O God; renew in me a steadfast spirit. Cleanse me that I may be pure; wash me and I will be whiter than snow. Restore to me the gladness of your salvation; uphold me with a willing spirit.
Give your servant an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil and have courage to act on the good.
Grant me a healthy body and the necessary good humor to maintain it. Grant me a simple soul that knows to treasure all, that doesn’t frighten easily at the sight of evil, but rather finds the means to put things back in their place.
Give me a soul that knows not boredom, grumblings, sighs and laments nor excess of stress because of that obstructing thing called “I”. Grant me, O Lord, a sense of good humor. Allow me the grace to be able to take a joke to discover in life a bit of joy, and to be able to share it with others.
Amen.
